Arrow building - Introductory course
Vad händer?
Arrows have been with humanity for a long time and they are as important as the bows that shoot them, while building them is a craft in and by itself.
The course sets out to introduce you to the basics of arrow building, starting with a bit of theory and ending with a set of three arrows for you to take home with you.
We will teach you how to choose the proper wood for an arrow, make the arrow fit to your draw-length and how to attach all the individual elements of an arrow properly to the shaft.
What we will do:
- A wee bit of theory in the beginning (stop yawning - it's necessary)
- Cut the shafts to the proper length for you personally
- Learn to correctly cut nocks in a arrow shaft
- Learn how to attach arrow-heads properly
- Prepare feathers for use as fletching
- Apply those feathers to the arrow
- String those feathers to the shaft to create a durable arrow
What we will provide:
- Arrow shafts (bamboo, Cedar or pine as available)
- Arrowheads (modern sporting heads, Fieldpoints)
- Feathers
- Glue or glue strip
- String
- Saws, files
what we will not do (unless we are REALLY quick and there is sufficient interest):
- Final finish (applying oil or colour to the arrows)
- Cresting
- Dye feathers
Age, safety and transport notice: This course involves saws, files, adhesives, wood dust, feathers and pointed arrowheads. Participants must be able to work carefully and follow safety instructions. For safety reasons, the course is intended for adults. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
If the organiser has expressly allowed a younger participant, the participant must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian or responsible adult who remains present throughout the course. The instructor may refuse participation if a participant cannot safely handle the tools or materials.
The arrows made in the course are functional archery equipment, not toys. They must be handled and transported safely and must not be carried loose around the festival area. They may only be used for archery in a safe and lawful setting, such as an approved range or supervised activity. No shooting is included in this course.
The course takes place in Berliner Rittergildes camp on Strandgärdet.
